North Fork of Long Island
The North Fork of Long Island, NY is extra special and has a sweet spots in our hearts. It's "under the radar" and an easy place to fall in love with, consisting of an ideal mix of beaches, boating, countryside (farm stands galore!), stunning vineyards, and incredible local fare (the oysters are beyond!).

The North Fork is best to explore with a car. From Manhattan, the drive is roughly 2–2.5 hours, but longer on summer Fridays. From RI/MA, take the ferry from New London, CT to Orient Point, NY; from Southern CT take the ferry from Bridgeport, CT to Port Jefferson, NY (or drive around/through NY during off hours.)
If you have family/friends joining directly from NYC, the Hampton Jitney serves Greenport directly.
Where to Stay
- Silver Sands – We could not adore this spot any more, and cannot wait to go back! An iconic 1950s waterfront motel which was carefully and thoughtfully refurbished into a quaint high end, beach front motel-like hotel. A few minutes outside of Greenport, so away from the hustle and bustle which we loved – a quick drive or bike ride into town.
- The Menhaden– a chic hotel in the heart of downtown Greenport, NY. We had a wonderful stay here on an anniversary weekend.
